  • The extension at Conway road addresses the various conflicting geometries of the existing house, while remaining a relatively simple addition to connect the kitchen and living room for a growing family.

Internally the extension needed to relate to the formal geometry of the existing living room and bay widows, while reconciling this with a new glass and glulam timber roof structure and open plan living area.

We reused the existing bricks from the back wall of the house where possible for the new chamfered flank wall, introducing a clean glass and zinc opening in between. The chamfered brick wall served to reduce the impact of the extension on the neighbour, while softening the edge of the extension as it meets the garden, and simultaneously creating a south facing wall of light on the inside, reflecting the light into the open plan space on the cloudiest of days.
